PALERMO: THE ORIGINS

Palermo is a city that does not hide its Greek and Roman origins; already Arab capital, land conquered by many peoples, the Normans, the Swabians, the French and the Spanish. Therefore so many centuries of history and cultures have marked Palermo, today multiethnic city with thousand faces. The architectural and artistic beauties are the evidence of its past. In Palermo coexist harmoniously Arabic domes, Baroque churches, Art Nouveau buildings, neoclassical theaters, eighteenth green spaces and crowded historical markets which are quite similar to those Arabs. Just the local markets of Palermo are the places which could be regarded as out of time because they have kept all the charm of the cultures that have left messages, which have remained in the local culture.

THE MARKETS

The markets of Ballarò and Vucciria, placed near the railway station and the church of the Martorana, are also the most visited. There, the colors and scents of Palermo are charming and carrying those who visit, in the past. There are two other markets to visit, il Capo, located behind the Massimo theater and Borgo Vecchio, which is located in the vicinity of the harbour.

THE FOOD

Another strength of the Sicilian capital is the variety of food that is very tasty. Palermo offers to its visitors exclusive dishes , flavors and aromas are the result of recipes left by ancient rulers. Saffron, prickly pears and natural flavors are used to prepare the slush, these are just some of the products used in the multi-ethnic culinary art of Palermo.

Palermo is therefore able to leave in those who come to visit so many feelings . You can go back in time but you will seem to be also in a European modern city at the forefront.

You cannot visit Palermo in just one day and even two days could be enough, there are too many things to to admire like museums, churches of different eras, monuments representing the magnificence of the past but also the urban structures of the historic part which hide some truly unique peculiarities.

Palermo, the city with a thousand problems, has managed to become a place where you can make tourism; the unpolluted sea, the beaches of many colors and the attractions that can bring tourists to spend unforgettable days, made this city part of the most important touristic circuits .

THE THEATERS

Massimo theatre is the largest theater in Italy and is famous in the world for its perfect acoustics; within the theater there is a room shaped like a horseshoe that has unique features and a sound to the limit of the credible. Biondo theater, built in the early twentieth century, is the newest of the historical theaters of Palermo. Still widely used, is also well frequented. Then the Garibaldi or Politeama theater which is at the center of the city.

 

HOSPITALITY

Hospitality is a characteristic of Palermo which always comes out from its citizens. It is a city to live safely a with its traditions still alive. It involve visitors in all its activity.
